Children’s Health Insurance

In El Dorado County, we have a vision that all children have health care, including a regular doctor.

How will we realize this vision?

• First, by helping parents enroll their kids into free and low cost publicly subsidized insurance programs such as Medi-Cal and Healthy Families.
• Secondly, by looking for insurance programs to help families in moderate incomes. Through the ACCEL initiative, programs to fill the “gaps” in health care coverage for kids are being found.

The Kaiser Child Health Plan and CaliforniaKids are two such “gap coverage” insurance products being utilized in El Dorado County. Another product called Healthy Kids is also available in El Dorado County. Healthy Kids is an insurance product offered regionally in a four county area, including El Dorado, Sacramento, Colusa and Yuba Counties.

Application Assistors in the El Dorado County Public Health Department, Department of Human Services and other agencies, provide free assistance to families to determine which product they qualify for, and help with the enrollment process. They also follow families to ensure that they find a medical home and a regular doctor.
